Ikebana (Japanese Flower Arrangement)

In this class you will study Japanese flower arrangements. We will use textbooks from the Japanese headquarters of the Sogetsu School. You'll arrange 1 or 2 flower arrangements in each class. Once you finish the textbook course, you'll be certified. You can either just enjoy flower arrangements, or work toward becoming an instructor.

2022 Classes:

Evening Classes: Second Wednesday of the month, from 6 - 8pm, beginning Jan.12, 2022

Daytime classes: Fourth Friday of the month, 10am to noon, beginning Jan. 28, 2022

Fee: Annual fee of $30 (please bring cash or check to first class), plus $10 per arrangement (payable by cash or check on the day of class).

Teacher biographies:

Mr. Koukichi Uchiyama has been practicing flower arrangement since 1997. He had been Deputy Director of Sogetsu Cincinnati Branch for 11 years before he was appointed to Director in 2018. He holds Sogetsu Teacher’s Diploma 1st grade. He is President of UCHIYAMA ART STUDIO, INC. Besides flower arrangement, his artistic activities span a wide range of paintings, sculptures and ceramics. He is also Director and Chief Instructor of USA CHITO-RYU KARATE DO, Japanese martial art.

Teruko Nesbitt has been practicing Sogetsu flower arrangement since 2013 after she retired from the Procter & Gamble Company. She is a certified instructor of Sogetsu Ikebana received teachers diploma from Sogetsu Japan headquarters. She is currently representing Cincinnati area for Japan Intercultural Consulting company and also the owner of Japanese gift shop, Hanamiya. Besides, flower arrangement, she is practicing Japanese tea ceremony, calligraphy and weaving, etc.
