Larry McKenney is a wonderful example of lifelong learning. As an educator for years it is safe to safe that he has always loved learning and teaching. In his retirement he continues to take classes from respected fiber artists from all over the world and then incorporates their techniques into his own quilts. Larry's fiber art technique can be enjoyed by the free public during a showing of his last year’s work being held in the Barn from September 7 - 17, 2017. Artist Statement I have always been drawn to the colors and textures of the natural and man-made environment. Working with fibers enables me to creatively explore ideas and inspirations based on photographs I have taken while traveling throughout the world. I always have my camera ready to try to capture images that I can translate with fabric. All are welcome to attend the Opening Reception on Thursday, Sept. 7 from 6 - 9pm.Community members may view his collection of quilts from 10 - 5pm Tuesdays thru Fridays and 1 - 4pm on the weekends. Memories of travels taken to foreign lands, as well as landscapes of local landmarks all inspire Larry; his fiber art often resembles paintings rather than quilts. |
