This five-session course is designed for those of you who have some experience in watercolor painting. Now its time to gain confidence so you can “find your style.” Be inspired by the Barn’s vaulting ceiling and great north light as you strengthen your skill in using watercolor techniques with greater conviction. This course is for intermediate and advanced watercolor painters.

Class meets once a week on Mondays from 1 - 4pm, June 4 - July 2.

The focus of this intermediate/advanced watercolor painting is the strengthening of skills in the medium to enhance your own particular vision.  For example, you may have learned that it is important to build up layers of watercolor washes.  In this course, you will use this knowledge to make your colors richer, deeper, and more varied.  You will learn that a variety of washes help to create the illusion of deep space, create shadows, and enhance details.  Another example of how you will employ the techniques you already know is the importance of brushwork or 'mark making'.  Everyone has unique mark making just like you have a unique signature. Various studies will help you to judge how to use various mark making techniques and use various brushes and tools (everything from the handle of your brush to the edge of a credit card for scraping). In the end, your paintings will show the greater confidence you will have developed. Throughout the course, we will try a variety of experimental effects, which is one of the joys of watercolors.  Many varied household chemicals and products (salt, bleach, saran wrap and aluminum foil, etc.) can create special effects.  Various papers will be painted on, cut, assembled, and so on.  You can make anything from a suite of small, beautiful personal landscapes or flower portraits to complete abstraction, whatever your Muse says to you. The sky is the limit. Several watercolor books will be recommended depending on your skill level. If you have any questions, please contact me.

Class fee is $125 with a minimum $25 deposit to hold your spot. To register, checks should be made out to Cynthia Kukla and mailed to: 4151 Clough Lane, Cincinnati, OH. 45245
