Reflections   l Refractions   l Transparency   l Distortions   l Translucence

It is what is so exciting about painting glass! In this workshop, still life setups will be arranged where sunlight dances through the compositions and students will spend time their first morning photographing from different angles as desired, then using their choice of these photographs in their composition. We will discuss what to look for in reflections and refractions, the type of glass to use for maximum effect, organic subject to pair with glass, shapes, layering, and the elements used in designing an elegant composition. Demonstrations will be given throughout the workshop.

After making live sketches and references in the student’s sketch book on visual observations of the composition as it is affected by natural sunlight, students will begin to lay out their chosen composition on tracing paper to transfer to their watercolor paper for painting, or they may bring home their reference information and draw their composition that evening, so that participants can begin painting on day 2. Students will be required to print out their own reference photographs and bring to class on day 2
