Joan Cord Award of Excellence, 2016 "Grace's Ukelele" by Marlena Hebenstreit You are invited to view this powerful and exquisite exhibition of art by women artists from the tri-state area. Original art from Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky will be judged and awarded prizes during the 126th juried exhibit at the Woman’s Art Club of Cincinnati. The exhibit will be from May 10 - 26 in the first floor Gallery. Prizes will be announced at 7:30pm during the Artist’s Reception on Friday, May 10 from 6 - 9pm. The show stays open from 1 - 4pm weekends, and 10am - 2pm Tuesday - Friday with the Closing Reception set for Sunday, May 26 from 1 - 4pm. The exhibit is free, all works are available for purchase, and the public is cordially invited. Two and three dimensional art will show expertise is oil, acrylic, watercolor, fiber arts, ceramics and wood. Visitors also will see the results of ten years of labor that transformed an empty dairy barn into a gracious space that features gallery space, classrooms and private studios. The sale of the art will generate 20% of the proceeds for the benefit of the Woman’s Art Club thus helping to assure the continuance of this organization which is the oldest continuously operating art club for women in the United States. Art created by women is the focus of this organization since is began in 1892 during a time when women were not welcome by men in the organized field of art. Dixie Selden and Bessie Wessel are but two of the women who helped to create a group that now makes its home at "The Barn", an Ohio Cultural Arts Facility open to the public, welcoming women, men, and children.
